A Category B marker is applied to a vehicle when the vehicle has been in an accident. This means the vehicle is considered to be unsuitable for or beyond repair. This may mean that the vehicle has been marked for flood damage after salt-water damage.
For a bike specifically, this can mean the frame has suffered non-cosmetic damage. This marker can also be applied to a bike if the frame, engine VIN or identification has been tampered with by being removed or replaced.
Parts can be salvaged. The vehicle will be classed as waste. The structural framework will be crushed in its entirety. The VIN can never be used again and the V5C can never be reissued. The vehicle will be issued with a certificate of its destruction.
Sometimes an individual may choose to keep a Category B vehicle, it may hold a sentimental or historic value. These vehicle should not be sold and cannot be advertised on Auto Trader.
