When you sell a used car, make sure you do the following:
- Tell the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) that you no longer own the car.
- Tear off the section at the bottom of V5C (registration document) and send it to DVLA.
- If there’s any outstanding warranty on the car, you'll also need to let the company know that you have sold the car.
- Tell your insurers that you no longer own the car.
- Give the top part to the buyer and any other relevant paperwork you have. This should include MOT (Ministry of Transport) certificates, logbook and receipts etc.
