What are vehicle templates used for?
- To send to lenders in place of real purchase vehicles. This helps when the applicant can't specify which vehicle they want.
Good to know: Vehicle templates are also known as 'dummy vehicles'
How do I set up a vehicle template?
- Select 'Settings' in the left-hand menu
- Select 'Templates' then 'Vehicle'
- Select 'Add+' in the top right. This will open the 'Add dummy vehicle' box.
Adding a dummy vehicle is the same as adding an actual vehicle to an application:
You can enter the 'Registration' and 'Baseline vehicle details' or automatically populate them using the VRM lookup section.
There are three different ways to add a dummy vehicle:
- VRM lookup
- Manufacturer/model lookup
- Manually
Good to know: VRM lookup is the most common search method, as this will automatically populate all the information about the vehicle.
VRM lookup
To perform a VRM lookup:
- Type the vehicle's registration into the 'Registration' box
- Select Look up.
This will return all the vehicle information. Extra details can be added, such as "Mileage", "Retail value", "Stock number" and "Glasses code".
Error performing VRM lookup
If you get any of the below errors, please use the manufacturer/model lookup method instead:
- ‘An error occurred finding vehicle, please try again or contact support’
- ‘Note: the CapCode for this VRM could not be determined by the provider - please use our manufacturer/model lookup to find a suitable cap code for this vehicle if required.’
Manufacturer/model lookup
To input the vehicle this way:
- Select ‘Manufacturer/model lookup’.
- Using the drop-down, select the information for each of the categories in this order: Manufacturer, Model, Derivative
- You'll need to enter any other relevant information
- Once completed, select 'Submit'
Enter manually
To enter the vehicle information manually:
- Select 'Enter manually'
- Enter all the information in the pop-up
- Select 'Submit'
