If you've placed a deposit with the dealer directly, it's best to get in touch with them to get it back.
If you've reserved on Autotrader, there are three ways to update the progress of your reservation to get a refund of your £99 reservation fee.
Good to know: The £99 doesn't leave your account. It's just a pending payment. Similar to what happens when you buy petrol at the pump. But, you will see the amount 'taken' from your available balance. When the funds are made available again, either:
- The transaction will completely disappear from your statement
- The £99 will show as a refund on your statement
1. Through your Autotrader account
You can cancel or complete your reservation in your Autotrader account to get your reservation fee refunded:
- Select ‘my account’ and then go to ‘Deals and Reservations’ (this is in the top right on a desktop computer and the top left menu on a mobile device)
- Select the option to 'get your £99'
- The final step is to confirm if you have purchased the car
2. Via the 'Get Your £99 Back' email
- Two hours after your deal is placed, you will receive an email, 'Get Your £99 Back' with instructions guiding you to your ‘Deals and Reservations’
- Once you have decided if you are buying the vehicle or not, please choose the relevant option to begin the refund process.
3. Contacting the dealership
Once you have agreed with the dealership that the sale is going ahead or needs to be cancelled, they'll take the next steps to complete or cancel the reservation. This will issue a refund of your reservation fee.
Once you complete one of these actions, you'll be refunded within 24 hours.
