How does it work?
- How do I pay for my reservation? - You make your secure payment of £99 online to Auto Trader. The retailer will hold your vehicle until your order is complete. We do not pass this £99 to the retailer and will send it back to you.
- What if I change my mind? - If you decide that you don’t want to go ahead, you can cancel your reservation at any time. You’ll automatically get your £99 sent back.
- Where can I see order updates? - After 2 hours of submitting your reservation, we will remind you to let us know what’s happened with your reservation. This will be visible in your Auto Trader account area, and we’ll also email you.
Reservations are held for 3 days. Feel free to contact your seller if you need more time.
What happens to my money?
- Your money is held in Stripe - Your £99 reservation fee is held safely by our trusted payment provider, Stripe. We do not pass any money to the retailer. Once you let us know the outcome of the order we will send the £99 back to you.
How do I get my reservation fee back?

Getting your money back earlier - 2 hours after you have submitted your reservation, you will receive an email where we will ask you about your purchase. We'd like to know if you did or did not buy the vehicle. We will send the payment back to you as soon as you have told us.

Standard refund and cancellation time – If you don’t let us know the outcome within 21 days or do not reply to the email, then we will cancel your reservation and give the money back to you in 21 days. We will never hold your money longer than 21 days.
- I want to cancel my order - If you don’t want the vehicle or wish to cancel your reservation before this 2-hour period, you can cancel your order from your confirmation email or through your Auto Trader Account area. We will then issue a refund, which should show on your bank statement within 3-5 working days.
